Classic Farmhouse Kitchen & Wallpaper Bath
Project type
Kitchen & Bath Remodel
Location
Berkeley, CA
Repeating shapes create rhythm that unifies design elements. Here, a hexagon was replicated in the shower tile, mirror and cabinet knobs. Penny tile flooring brings in a classic element and echoes other round components. Tile is durable, non-porous and easy to clean without using harsh chemicals. The water-conserving, curving rain showerhead is a soft counterpoint to the room’s other angular features. A solid wood cabinet is finished with low VOC paint in a custom emerald green and accented with gold mid-century inspired hardware, complementing the mirror and vanity lights. The showstopper is PVC-free wallpaper featuring serene, hand-drawn waves, a lovely example of biophilic design.
In the kitchen, we went a little more industrial farmhouse with the aesthetic. Counter to ceiling thin brick anchors a calm and neutral palette with pattern and texture. Black window trim provides contrast and frames the garden view, while live-edge walnut shelves soften the backsplash geometry. Classic lighting and abundant plants throughout the adjacent spaces connect the look.
